He and Joshua were the only members of the older generation to enter the Promised Land. The rest of them died in the wilderness. We first meet Joshua in Scripture as Israel’s general (Ex. 17:8–16), defeating the Amalekites, and then as the servant of Moses (24:13; Num. 11:28).
